Week 23

Prenatal Online Exercise

Hello There!

At this stage in your pregnancy..

Baby size: grapefruit. Your baby may now experience hiccups. While unborn babies may be capable of sporadic hiccups as early as 12 weeks gestation, they are generally stronger and more rhythmic by this stage of pregnancy.

Are you wanting to catch a plane? Basically, travelling by plane is not a problem, but there are some practical considerations to think about. Many airlines want a letter from your caregiver if you are catching a flight in the third trimester. Not all airlines are the same, and the expectation differs depending on the length of flight and whether it is domestic or international, so it's important to check before you book.

On a different topic, most pregnant women have a glucose screening test between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy. The test may be done earlier if you have a high glucose level in your urine during your routine prenatal visits, or if you have a high risk for diabetes. In this week’s education class, Brielle discusses the dietary recommendations for women who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes.

This Week’s Spotlight

Get the lowdown.

Squats

A squat is a great functional movement that helps to strengthen your lower limbs. Nat will take you through how to get the best squat technique, along with when you should activate your pelvic floor through the movement.

Childs Pose

This stretch lengthens through the spine and stretches down the back of the shoulders and down the sides. It feels fabulous and can be a great position to move to any time during the mat class if you need to rest. Be mindful that in the third trimester your ribs flare out to accommodate your baby and you need to reduce how far you reach, only going as far as comfortable.

Upper Back Stretch

Are you feeling tight through the upper back and stiff through the neck? Join Millie to mobilise and lengthen through the upper body. Grab a fitball, a chair or do the stretch in standing. Ahhh, this feels good!

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes mellitus (sometimes referred to as GDM) is a form of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy. Join Brielle, our knowledgeable dietician as she discusses the ins and outs of GDM and how you can best manage this condition from a dietetics perspective.
